Abstract
Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic with dual opioid and nonopioid mechanisms. A low risk of respiratory or
central nervous side effects make tramadol an interesting drug for the management of acute and chronic pain. For
chronic pain syndromes tramadol has been demonstrated to use safely with only minimal risk of abuse or addiction. I
experienced one case of tramadol addiction in 35-year-old male patient with traffic accident. This case revealed mild
withdrawal reactions after chronic tramadol administration, and the absolute neutrophilia was a new hematologic finding
during withdrawal phase. Therefore, we should be cautious in the prescription of all drugs including analgesics and develop the more effective prevention strategies for the drug abuse and dependence.
